Understanding Our Insurance Options
Below, youβll find detailed explanations of what each insurance feature includes, helping you understand how our coverage works and what is protected during your rental. Whether youβre looking for basic coverage or complete peace of mind, weβve got you covered.
Excess liability refers to the maximum amount you will be responsible for if there is damage to the body of the vehicle during your rental. Depending on the package you select, this liability ranges from β¬3,500 in the Basic Package to β¬0 in the Gold and Platinum Packages.
Gravel protection covers damage to the camper caused by gravel, such as chips to the windshield, headlights, or paint. Liability for gravel damage starts at β¬1,000 in the Basic Package and is reduced to β¬0 in the Gold and Platinum Packages.
The CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is a standard insurance option included in the Basic Package that reduces your financial liability for damage to the camper. Without CDW, your liability is unlimited, but with this coverage, your excess liability is capped at β¬3,500. It provides basic protection, ensuring you wonβt be responsible for the full cost of damages in the event of an accident. For even greater coverage, consider upgrading to the Super CDW to lower your liability further.
Theft protection covers the camper itself in the event it is stolen during your rental period. Please note that this does not cover personal items left inside the camper. Theft protection is included in the Silver, Gold, and Platinum Packages for added peace of mind.
The Super CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) significantly reduces your financial liability for damage to the camper. It lowers the excess liability from β¬3,500 in the Basic Package to β¬1,000 in the Silver Package. This enhanced coverage provides added protection and helps minimize potential out-of-pocket expenses in the event of an accident.
Zero excess means you have no financial liability for damage to the body of the vehicle. This coverage is included in the Gold and Platinum Packages, eliminating the need for out-of-pocket expenses specifically for damage to the vehicle's body.
Sand and ash protection reduces your liability from unlimited to β¬500 for damage caused by volcanic ash or sandstorms, which are common in certain parts of Iceland. These storms often occur during dry and windy conditions, making this coverage essential for travelers. This protection is included in the Platinum Package to safeguard against these unique risks.
Tire protection covers the cost of replacing damaged tires, such as punctures or blowouts, during your rental. Please note that this only covers the cost of the tire itself and does not include expenses for replacement labor or towing. Tire protection is included in the Platinum Package, ensuring youβre covered for unexpected tire-related issues.
General Insurance Questions
Liability is the maximum amount you may need to pay if the rental car is damaged or involved in an incident during your rental period. The exact amount depends on the insurance package you choose. For example, with the Basic Package, you could be responsible for up to β¬3,500, while the Gold and Platinum Packages reduce your responsibility to β¬0, giving you complete peace of mind.
Please note that uninsured damages are not included in this liability. For example, if you damage the chassis of the car, this type of damage is not covered under your insurance package, and the liability limits will not apply.
We cannot tell you which insurance plan to choose, as it depends on your travel plans and preferences.
However, we can guide you based on popular choices among our customers. Over the last 12 months, 60% of our customers selected the Platinum Plan for its comprehensive coverage, and 26% opted for the Gold Plan. These plans offer the highest level of protection and peace of mind for travelers.
If your credit card includes rental car insurance, you might not need to purchase additional coverage from us. However, most credit card insurance providers require you to decline any third-party insurance for their coverage to apply. During the booking process, you must select the "Decline Insurance" option to meet this requirement.
Important: Itβs crucial to confirm the specifics of your credit card insurance with your provider before making this decision. Some credit card policies may have exclusions, such as not covering certain vehicle types, specific damages, or rentals in certain countries.
If you choose to decline our insurance and your credit card insurance does not cover a particular incident, you will be fully responsible for all damages and costs. Carefully review your credit card policy to ensure youβre adequately protected before declining additional coverage.
Yes, you can. Insurance can be added during the pickup process. Alternatively, you can also add insurance in advance through my.gocampers.is before your arrival.
If you damage your car and have third-party insurance, you will need to pay for the damage at our office. The basic insurance package is included with your rental, so your liability will be up to β¬3500 unless you have declined insurance.
We will provide you with all the necessary paperwork and contact information from our damage department to help you easily claim your money back from your third-party insurance provider.
